Happy Mother's Day!

Today I am so grateful for the blessing of being a mother. This time last year we didn't really know if we would ever be able to have children so it means that much more to us. We were lucky to be able to celebrate Mother's Day with both of our mothers and some other wonderful family. 

Yesterday Alex graduated. It was awesome. He has worked so hard and dedicated so much of his life (9 years!) to his degree. He gave a great speech too.

Today, (besides Mother's Day), Cecily received her baby's blessing at church from her dad. 

 Cecily's great grandma Gammon made her dress, bonnet and booties. 

 I love my family! Missed those that couldn't make it, but they were there in spirit.

Q: So how do you feel after 7+ weeks of momhood?
A: Awesome. Still wearing maternity pants. And will be for a while... But actually I do feel great.

Q: How is the little burrito sleeping?
A: Better and better. The other night I am pretty sure she went 7 hours between feedings (only pretty sure because my days run together and I am never sure what happened when...) and has had documented 6 hour spaces before. So we still aren't getting as much sleep as we would like but it so so much better compared to a month ago.

Q: What are you up to nowadays?
A: I am back to work part time.

Q: How is that?
A: Actually, good. It gets me out of the house, around other people, doing something I like, and I don't have to worry about Cecily because she has the best babysitter in the world!

Q: What is Cecily up to nowadays?
A: She gets cuter and cuter every day. She smiles at us regularly. I can't wait for her to start laughing. She outgrew the newborn stuff a while ago and has outgrown a lot of the 3 month clothes too. It kills me to pack up clothes she has outgrown.

Q: How is the best babysitter ever?
A: Good. He graduates this weekend! Woo hoo! We can't wait to see all the family that is coming to town for the event and for Cecily's baby blessing this Sunday.

Happy one month birthday!!

Today is Cecily's one month birthday! And Alex and my one month anniversary of being parents.

I made a peanut butter chocolate cake in the slow cooker that didn't look that great and ... didn't taste that great either. But it didn't really matter because Cecily didn't get any anyway.

She got a couple presents. She slept through the whole party.

Alex made her the benzene onesie and I made the other one. 

I got her a book. She wasn't terribly interested in it but I read it to her anyway.

So how is being a parent? Awesome. I love being a mom! I love contemplating this new little creature in my life and all the potential she has and all the exciting adventures we will have together. She has started to have random smiles which melt my heart. I can't say I like her (what feel like) marathon fussy sessions at night but I know she will grow out of them and someday I will miss the newborn stage. Not everything about the newborn stage, mind you, but it is such a special thing to have a spirit straight from heaven.

She had a pediatrician visit today and weighed 10#11oz! She went from average weight to 90th percentile in a month! Go Cecily!

Another whirlwind Boston trip... and a new home!

So, Boston...

In Boston the chance of finding a place to rent you actually want to live with 2 large dogs, 1 cat and 1 child: very small. Once we discovered this and came to the conclusion that we should try to buy if we could (this was last week), we found a home on Trulia that we liked and where we could see ourselves living. Let me tell you about the housing market in Boston: many of the homes go on the market during the week, have an open house on Sunday, accept offers Monday and are sold. So when we saw this house, that night we purchased a ticket to send Alex out there to see if it was "the one". I always miss that man when he leaves but I have never missed him so much as when I had a crying infant at midnight four nights in a row. In the end, it was all worth it. We made an offer and it was accepted today. This was not, actually, the home he went out there to see. That one ended up being not all we wanted it to be, mostly neighborhood-wise. This other home has pretty much all of what we want: it is close to public transport, in a good neighborhood, it has a decent sized yard for the area, and it also has lots of things that will be nice: close to shopping, close to parks and outdoor recreation areas, it has a garage, it has an unfinished basement with lots of potential. The inside is pretty outdated but nice enough and at some point we will probably redo a few things but for the time being we can move in to a very livable home.

There are two crazy things about this situation: 1) I never imagined we would spend so much on a home at this point in our lives. 2) We bought a house without my even seeing it!

So, I just want to say that we are 15 minutes away from the airport and we have a guest bedroom.

I have been missing out on one of the cutest things a baby has to offer and I didn't fully realize it until yesterday.
